The thread on DTC Wave 4 got me thinking... It seems like the new sculpts from 2002-2006 have been largely forgotten by collectors & fans (not that they had that many to begin with). I don't even see them being sold in local online auctions & specialty shops anymore (I don't know about the US market though).

I know the 25A figures also have their faults but in my own collection & Joeverse, they are starting to replace the default versions of certain characters.

I myself was a fan of the new sculpts and in fact would have army built the DTC Troopers (& Officers) if the line had continued. But I just can't bring myself to put the VvV Vipers, DTC Troopers, & even the blue Neo Vipers into "active duty" beside the 25A Troopers & Vipers. And it's not just because of the scale issue. I've got more of the 25A Battle Pack Troopers now than any of the aforementioned new sculpt army builders.

This is not a new sculpt vs 25A discussion... I just wanted to point out that the demand for the new sculpts has died down since the 25A came out.

Mmmmmmm for me they never be forgotten...i have a few nice versions of different Characters im going to keep my default like the blue/red viper v.14 because of price and availability and still have a lot of fodder to create new characters with new sculpt figs.

I can only speak personally, but now that I've got the 25th figures, I tend to look at my new sculpt collection as that fat girl I rebounded with in high school. She filled the void at the time, but now that I've moved on to something hotter, I feel a little dirty at having ever known new sculpt.

Which is why I keep her locked away in plastic bags in the basement.

Most of 2002-2004 was crap, but I felt that from 04-06 they really started to get their act together and release some nice figures. There are a lot of gems in the new sculpt line that I wouldn't part with, such as Razorclaw with removable helmet, DTC Range Viper and Snow Serpent, etc. Not to mention good figures of characters unique to the format.

To me they just expanded the fodder pool,

for a guy like me who LBCs like a champ it was a breath of fresh air

Were they perfect, hell no, did they feel good at the time... yeah, yeah they did

Besides I collected all the characters into a nice Joe graduating class.
We got about 20 new Joes and even a few new Cobra.
Bombstrike
Red Spot
Dart
Widescope and Lamont
Switch Gears
Cannonball
Long Range II
Crosshairs
Barrel Roll
Hollow Point
Agent Faces
Hacker
Hard Drive
High Tech
Kamakura
Tiger Paw
Link
Depth Charge
Major Barrage
Rollbar

From a dealer point of view, the 2002 NSs never sold well. the later stuff, especially the VVV line sells as well as RAH. to date, not much has changed. they still move on the 2ndary market, but what people are doing with them (collecting/fodder) i dont know.

I do think some great stuff is ignored due to what you are descirbing. I think the "New Sculpts" truely nailed some characters (Ripper, VvV Snake Eyes, Torch ect).

There is plenty of crap there too, but with the crap came some excellence IMO. I still dig many of the army builders (Neo Vipers, Sand Vipers are still my all time fav army builder) But I also think many people have trouble fitting them into thier collections. With some ajustments they fit in fine with mine (ie keeping Neos geticly enhanced and Sand armored troops ect).

Still I am sure people will chime in about "EWWW they are crap."

I just hope Hasbro hasn't totally forgotten 2002-2006. Yes there were some really bad ideas that shouldn't ever see the light of day again, but there were also some interesting new characters that would really shine in the 25th style. Still plenty of classics like Scrap Iron that the 25th needs, but it would be nice to have a little room for Ghost Bear and Bombstrike.

I guess the demand isn't very high because they are sort of the odd balls in the middle right now. Not really the old style figures so they don't hit that collecting bone of wanting the figures you had as a kid. Too darn short now to really mix in with your 25th figures and then it takes the best sculpts of 2002-2006 to not look bad compared to the 25th figures. Factor in how quickly we keep getting waves and the tough budgets of fans right now and yea I guess things had to give somewhere.

Good riddance might have been a few gems but most looked deformed.

Gung-Ho v16 and Kamakura v1 both stand out to me.

Kamakura v1 just because new sculpt is the only way he's available

I'm sure people would still want the unreleased Airtight, Falcon, Outback, Munitia wave

For me, they're not forgotten. I love the 25th sculpts...but they are so darn hard to mess around with. I'm always afraid I'm going to break them because they have so many joints that look like they can easily break. I think as TOYS, the "new sculpt" figures are much more fun, but they don't look cooler than any of the 25th sculpts. Cross Hair is probably one of my favorite figures ever made, so there's no way I could ever "forget" the line from those several years.

I'd LOVE to see a Bombstrike/Barrel Roll/Blackout update in the 25A... Crosshair too. Beyond those characters... Not too many jump out at me. Maybe Maj Barrage would be good too.

forgotten for me. I'm glad we have new characters like Kamakura, the Stall family, and such, but I don't think these will ever be on display for me.

I'm not quite as harsh as Lance and Matthew but I'm pretty close. Their were a lot of good updates in this line along with tons of new blood. I've kept the ones that interest me and have gotten rid of the ones that don't. The same can be said for RAH though. Some figures still interst me and others I only have because they were easy to acquire.

Honestly I think one day those neat characters and figures will be sought after much like the 97-98 figures are. Those were completely overlooked back in the day by most collectors. One day people will look back and wonder why the Night Force Grizzly demands $200 on ebay or why VvV Torch and Frostbite MOC AFA graded is $900. :D
