July was Battle Corps Month at my Blog:
Oreobuilder's BlogIn May, when I began assembling my modern takes on Battle Corps figures, I was planning only a few figures – Beach Head, Wild Bill, three Battle Corps Rangers, a few others. I thought I would roll them out over the course of a week. As I looked at more and more figures, the project grew from Battle Corps Week to Battle Corps Month. All told, the project counts 36 different characters for a total of 44 figures (with multiple troop builders) and 2 vehicles. Not bad for about 4 weeks of customizing.
I started this project as a way of using some of my less used parts and colors. My goal was to make cool customs in a common theme without breaking the bank. The objective was to buy as few parts as possible to complete this. In this aspect, I believe that I succeeded. I wanted to use the parts at my disposal in new and interesting ways. A few customs could benefit from acquiring a few new parts: the Alley Viper’s accessories, the Ice Cream Soldier’s head and a few others come to mind. However, as a whole, I’m super satisfied with the results of this undertaking. I will keep an eye open and if I can ever acquire these parts cheaply, I will improve my customs when I can.
This project was a whole lot of fun to make. It allowed me to use and explore colors, parts and concepts that I usually shy away from because of a lack of realism or wackiness. Now that I have embraced my inner neon, I will be more open to the use of color in my customs. I may revisit this time period at a future date. I picked about three dozen characters for this project, but 1992 to 1995 had many more figures that could serve as inspiration. There are many more Battle Corps figures that could be made – Law, Major Bludd, Dial-Tone, Mindbender, Muskrat, Roadblock and the list goes on. Also, Mail-Away Interrogator, the Arctic Commandos, the Shadow Ninjas or the Air Commandos could all serve as inspiration for a future project. Hmmm, maybe I should look at doing this again…
Thanks for looking and commenting, I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did making them.

As an added treat, here are a few figures that didn’t make the cut. These are still very preliminary WIPs and not necessarily the parts (and certainly not colors) that would have been used for my final customs. Some of these I will probably finish. Others will get parted out again. It will depend when/if I revisit this project at a later date.
Enjoy!
