As a child, Croc Master was one of my favorite figures. In my universe he was as strong as the Hulk! When the 25th anniversary version came out I was pleased with Hasbro’s treatment of the character, but I wanted one with huge muscles, so I started collecting various bare arms from multiple figure lines to try them out with Croc Master. I also tried varying paint techniques. My weathering techniques changed from figure to figure and over time as I learned more about painting. This thread is a compilation of all the Croc Master work I’ve done.

First let’s look at a factory Croc Master compared to one with only some paint detailing. This shows how much more the figure can pop with a few paint aps.

Image

Next, is a simple parts swap that makes a big difference in how strong the figure looks. I swapped his skinny little factory hands for some bulkier hands from the 25th Bazooka figure.

My next step was to try the Copperhead upper arms on the figure. I also used Bazooka hands on it. This is an interesting sculpt because from the front the original Croc Master arms look more muscular, but from the side the Copperhead arms look stronger.

I also tried to sculpt bigger biceps on another Copperhead upper arms set. As you can see, that failed miserably. The forearms are from a 25th comic pack IG Destro

Image

I tried a set of DC Crisis Hawkman arms. They made him look like a big gorilla. I also tried out the vintage head to see how it would look on a 25th body.

Image

These are XO Wolverine Sabretooth arms. They look really good on this figure!

Image

Once the Retaliation figures hit with the big Roadblock arms I wanted to try them as well. They look good, but in the end they’re not as massive as I would have liked.

Image

Here are the original upper arms, Retaliation Roadblock arms, and the Copperhead upper arms in comparison. You can see that although the Roadblock arms feature a lot more detail, they don’t really look much stronger than the other 2.

Image

One of my favorite sets of arms for this project was from the DTC Major Barrage. My only complaint is the cut at the bottom of the bicep to allow the arm to bend.

Image

During the process of trying to create the perfect Croc Master I made a kit bash of the old Super Hero Showdown Thor upper arms and the Marvel Universe Thor lower arms. Originally I sent these to Hunter Artworks for casting, but they were gonna be too difficult to mass produce so I sent them Slayer Design Studios and they were available in the store for a while. These are the original prototypes from Hunter Artworks. Unfortunately one of the arms has a crack where the pin is in the arm.

Image

Finally, we come to the end-all, be-all of my over-done Croc Master project. These are the arms from an Avengers Battle Hammer Thor.

Image

Image

Here are all of them lined up!

Pretty nice crocmasters there. You just reminded me that I need one of those for my collection.

I have plenty of 'em to trade if you want one. One of them is unaltered.

WOW... that's a load of Crock! :whistling:

I love the last one. did you change the legs too? That was my main problem with him, the skinny legs that Crock Master had. I still need to get me a couple of that Thor figure, you used. Of course, now I don't see him after teh great Xmas spree of 2012.

No I didn't change the legs, but I figured out a technique that improved their appearance. Where the holster meets the front of the leg had this section where it was kkinda sunk in and made the leg looks skinny and the holster look like it sat really odd. I filled that with greenstuff and painted it black. It actually helps a lot. However that last one has a custom holster that I sculpted to fit that HUGE revolver that came with VvV Destro.

The only issue I have with your final design is the chest looks a little narrow for the size of the arms, like all he'd been doing was curls, no bench press to work the pecs. Other than that, they're all good.

I would've been happy at stopped at the upgraded hands- but that's me. It's amazing to see what happens when something sparks in someone's mind and where it leads. Your ultimate Croc Master is the best and it's great to see you showcase the step-by-step process here.

Thanks. Although the upgraded hands were one of the first things I showed in the post to show a contious upgrade in parts changes, it's one of the last ideas I had. Otherwise I probably would've stopped too. LOL!

I really like this project. This is something I think we all do with parts, but I like how you used a different figure for each attempt and more importantly documented them along the way.

I think it's a result of my compulsiveness. :-) I wanted to be able to set them up sided by side and look at works and what doesn't. I did the same thing with my massive Han Solo project a few years back.

Wow

Dude, this thread... this journey of yours... made me care a lot for Croc Master (the figure AND the character!)

Also I never seen a custom this well documented.

LOL! I don't think I even mentioned what I did for the working knife sheath or sculpting holsters and arm bands, guess I got lazy when I was typing the post.

In a post this thorough, there's bound to be some oversights LOL

Feel free explain it now.
