Fast Attack Boat

The cover of Marvel's GI Joe Issue #47 is one of the greatest of the entire run. I remember the first time reading it when I was 10 years old, and not just for the dramatic turns the story takes. The cover just always struck me. Wanting to do a custom homage to this cover has been on my list of things to do for a long time, and it's finally complete, with a custom version of Beach Head, Hawk, Wet-Suit and the Devilfish. The main thing about this custom is that the missiles were relocated to where they were on the pre-production version of the toy, as you can see on the back of the Devilfish box, and indeed on the cover of #47. It was surprisingly easy – just cut of the tabs, and then cut some slits in the appropriate places on the sides. Since the tabs are already tapered, you can just push them into the slits from the bottom, and they stay in place with friction.

All parts and accessories - Devilfish

The main thing about this custom is that Skidmark's arms were used to give a consistent look with his balaclava, and with the cover art as well. He was also repainted.

Head, torso, waist, legs – Beach Head v6 (torso modified)
Arms – Skidmark

Carbine – Beach Head (accessory pack version)
Backpack – Beach Head

Wet-Suit
Navy SEAL

The main thing about this custom is that the lower face of v7 Wet-Suit was grafted onto a v1 figure, so that he would appear as he did on the cover.

Head – Wet-Suit, modified to add part of Wet-Suit v7
Arms, torso, waist, legs – Wet-Suit

Backpack, breathing hose – Wet-Suit
Rifle – Cobra Trooper

Hawk
General Commander

The main thing about this custom is that a comic pack Hawk head was added to a v2 figure, which gives him his blond hair back. He was also repainted.

Head – General Abernathy v3
Arms, torso – General Hawk v5
Waist, legs – Hawk v2

Helmet, pistol – Hawk v2

That was the first Joe comic I bought for myself, so it is a sentimental favorite for sure. I really love how Wet-Suit turned out. It is all great, but he is the stunner here. I'd love for you to do a bit of a water diorama to pose this all on.

Thanks, I do have plans to try doing some water for dioramas in the future and this'll certainly be one of the things I use it for if I can make it work.

That issue was so memorable especially that it featured in an animated commercial. Your customs are perfect. I like that you moved the missiles to the sides like the prototype toy had. The mods to Wetsuit are terrific.

I want to see a WIP of the Wet-Suit head before you painted it. It's perfect. Awesome job.

Wet-Suit is awesome!
I'm betting he'll be a JCA Best Existing Character.
