Fred VII began his work in Cobra as a surgically-altered Crimson Guard posing as an auto-mechanic in Denver. The original Cobra Commander came to seek this Siegie's (C.G.'s) help in restoring his son Billy's health. After Fred created a cybernetic leg for Billy, Cobra Commander vowed to quit Cobra. Claiming that he was owed by Cobra Commander for his sacrifices, Fred shot him in the back and took the Commander's new battle armor and identity.

Returning to Cobra Island, Fred wrested power away from Serpentor with the help of the Baroness, who saw an easy rise to power by siding with the imposter. Serpentor soon rallied his forces and faced-off against Fred and his loyal troops. A civil war ensued with Fred triumphing in the conflict when Zartan felled the Cobra Emperor with an arrow.

Destro returned to the Cobra organization and took control away from Fred, using the former Siegie's true identity for blackmail. Cobra was transformed into an international arms dealer under the new leadership. Infighting continued plaguing Cobra's leadership until the original Cobra Commander returned and had his enemies, including Fred VII, buried inside a freighter in a volcano. Fred subsequently died of botulism while trying to escape.
