To help meet his far-reaching lust for power, Firefly employed several renegade Red Ninjas. These warriors differed from their Cobra-affiliated counterparts with their usage of combat armor. Each ninja had a unique set of armor which distinguished him from his mercenary comrades. Firefly kept his true identity from his minions, preferring to call himself the Red Master, until he captured the GI Joe and Cobra Ninja Forces. When he revealed his true identity to his prisoners, the armor-clad Red Ninjas attacked their former leader. Firefly proved his abilities to those who doubted his claims of martial-arts adeptness by killing several of the turncoats.

The fate of the remaining Red Ninjas in battle armor remains unseen. While Firefly brainwashed the Joes and Cobras and used them for his own means, his Red Ninjas were not seen again. It also remains unknown if these Red Ninjas were trained by the Arashikage clan as the ninjas originally employed by Cobra were.
