Gale comes from the Tibet Mountains and was known as the "wind dancer". Being the youngest in her family with six older brothers, Gale was always playing and fighting with her brothers. Her brother taught her how to fight using weapons, like the bow staff, kendo stick and nunchuks. Because of being a girl, she was not allowed to use weapons of any kind. Gale would watch her brother's practice and would emulate their movements using rocks; sticks and bamboo in place of throwing stars; swords and the bow staff.

One day while her father and brothers were away, four thieves came to her home to rob and pillage her home. Gale sprung into action using all the skills she had learned from watching her brothers. She took out one with a rock to the head, another with a bamboo shoot and the third with a spinning heal kick (that sounded like the howling wind) to the head. The fourth managed to pull his sword and hold her mother at hostage.

At this time a stranger appeared and dispatched the forth thief with a quick flip of his wrist, using a star to take him out. The stranger told Gale that he heard the howl of the wind call out to him and that is how he found where they were. Gale and her mother offered the stranger shelter from the coming storm. The stranger ask Gale where she learned to fight so fearlessly, her mother responded that Gale feared no man and would copy her brothers movements like she was dancing with the wind.

The stranger introduced himself as "Kaze" the Master of the Grey Dragon Clan of Wind. Gale humbled herself before him and asked for forgiveness for practicing the art of the ancients that was meant for men only and not showing him respect. Kaze, impressed by this young woman, fearlessness and respect for the arts, brought her back to his school to be his newest apprentice.
