Rangers are a high readiness element responsible for securing key targets and outer cordons during direct action raids. After serving as a SPEAR-Viper, a subsequent and elite level within the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of Hellion's Directorate is that of SPARTA-Viper*.

SPARTA-Vipers are truly elite in that they work in conjunction with the most secretive of Cobra's Clandestine Operatives, the SPECTRE-Vipers. After time proven as loyal and effective SPARTA-Vipers, a select few go on to Crimson Guard indoctrination and become the "Shadow Ghosts," the SPECTRE-Vipers.
