While retreating from a battle with the Wolf Pack, a special unit of G.I.Joe, Zartan came across a cabin deep in the swamps of Louisiana. It was there he met VooDoo, a legendary Black Magic priest. Zartan ask VooDoo to help him escape the Pack, VooDoo having no love for government types gladly hid him in his cabin. VooDoo, with help of his brother Warlord created a black fog using black magic to hide the trail that led to his cabin, while Warlord led the Pack in a different direction. Zartan was impressed with VooDoo so much he offered him and his brother membership to the Dreadnoks. VooDoo, although reluctant, accepted Zartan's offer and he and Warlord became Dreadnoks.
