There are more ninja clans than just the Arashikage, and some of those clans grew in technique along with the times and technology. Mongoose is one of the only known active members of a clan that has long trained it's assassins to use every available tool and weapon at their disposal.

Mongoose is a ninja bullet-bender capable of pulling off feats of accuracy defined as impossible by the laws of physics. Each pistol Mongoose carries has a different type of hand-crafted ammunition, and Mongoose truly believes that each target is meant for a specific bullet; therefore it's best to be prepared and make sure that when that target is met, the appropriate gun and bullet are there to greet him. Rarely ever seen before an attack, Mongoose explodes into action with a tornado of seemingly random gunfire that only ever seems to fatally injure one person. Only later is it ever discovered that the random casualty wasn't random.

I originally envisioned Mongoose as a sort of "Anti-Snake Eyes." Snake Eyes always with his sword drawn and his Uzi, well Mongoose was the ultimate answer with always a gun drawn and maybe a knife. Having always been amused as a child that the Joes had an operative named "Snake Eyes" while they fought "Cobra," I realized, as an adult, that Cobra needed a real solution to that problem because Storm Shadow was too wishy-washy. What kills snakes? A mongoose. Of course, as often happens, the more time I spent working on Mongoose, the more Mongoose became less and less a "minion of Cobra sent after G.I.Joe's ultimate Ninja," and more of a freelance Mercenary-Ninja for hire answering only to the highest dollar, but never forgoing a job for a better offer and risking dishonor!
