This figure started out as an attempt to use later, bulkier parts to update the design of the basic Cobra Trooper. However, The need to do so evaporated when the Cobra Infantry 6 pack was announced, so I decided to make this guy a unique character. I had a little brainstorming session with this figure and my accessories and came up pretty empty. Just giving him a rocket launcher or a sniper rifle was pretty pointless because I could do all of those things with my 6 pack army builders. I dug a little deeper and thought, "What do these blueshirts need?" The answer came to me... a trainer!

Simply calling him a Cobra Drill Instructor seemed lame, so I had the idea of making him a more conventionally dressed version of Big Boa. It occurred to me that the 87 figure of Big Boa vs a fully uniformed Cobra Trooper was too much of a design departure so I had to do something slightly radical to make the statement that this Cobra Drill Instructor was slightly eccentric and will get more so over the years and wear the spikey criss crossed suspenders with the spiked helmet. I tried the Road Pig arms and that seemed to work. It gave him the more conservative look of a blue shirt, but hinted at the flamboyance of the later figure.
