For Resurgence 1, I made the Crusher Tank. For Resurgence 2, I made the Cougar IFV. For part 3, I felt the Joes needed an armored personnel carrier. Since PTE makes a decent one, I started there. I removed the "buckets" that took up all the interior space and modified the inside to fit the quad. Finally, I added a hinge on the back to make the door.
Initially, the Centurion was to be a simple Armored Personnel Carrier. I wanted to modify the back with seats to carry troops. Once I actually got around to making the changes, I realized that it would be a lot more fun if it carry a small vehicle, similar to the Cobra Anaconda last year. This time around, I wanted to keep the vehicle believable (as opposed to the Splitjaw Recon Bike last year), so I immediately thought of the PTE quad. It is a fun, sturdy and compact vehicle that would have seen a lot of play if I had it as a kid. Fortunately, it fit perfectly into the back of the Centurion.
The Centurion started out medium gray. I quickly got bored with such a simple color scheme and decided to hand paint some urban camouflage onto the chassis. Unfortunately, that went sideways really quickly. The camouflage did not come out as I hoped. I tested a few other options that did not really work out. That's when the idea of painting it up as the '83 APC struck me. The original APC was my very first GI Joe vehicle. I remember getting it for my birthday in 1983 (along with Flash and Grunt), so it holds a special place in my memories. I think the PTE version repainted works well as an updated version.
