Topside is a Naval Warfare expert, read Navy SEAL. Prior to joining the Joe Team, Topside worked with the other Joe SEALs as part of SEAL Team Six.

Now that the Joe Team has been scattered around the world fighting the undead, Topside now roams the west coast in hopes of coming upon a former teammate. In the meantime he assists all he can and takes out as many zombies as he can.
