For the longest time, my EXCAL verse of contemporary heroes and super-heroes was based largely on real world physics. But as it became more and more comic book verse oriented, it was inevitable that the survivors of Krypton would start to show up. So now I have Superman and Supergirl, and Powergirl pending. I'm not changing anything with the back-story, only acknowledging that my current verse is not just the DC universe, but merges many different properties into one.
