Icicle is one of a handful of Joes who was adamant about choosing his own code-name. He grew up in an environment where icicles were a year-round part of life, and could grow to alarming size and were capable of significant destruction if they fell from where they descended. Icicle became an arctic explorer, leading "adventure tourists" into the wilderness, but eventually became fed up with the stupidity he encountered. He enlisted in the Army, and began studying demolitions, and figuring out ways how they could be applied to the treacherous and unique environments found in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. He knows exactly how to do anything from blowing up an Arctic HISS tank to causing a dedicated avalanche to take out an entire patrol of Snow Serpents.

From General Hawk's Files: "Icicle has a tendency to be both sullen and sarcastic. I suspect this is due to years of experience as a glorified tour guide, as well as living in a region where survival takes precedence over social skills. However, there's no one better at his job. He not only knows how to get the job done if something in his neck of the woods needs to be blown up, he's just as good at finding any Cobra hardware that might be waiting for us. More than once he's been heard to say, 'Those Snow Serpents call this an explosive? I've gone ice fishing with more effective stuff than this!'"
