I remember going to Toys R Us back when this figure came out and thinking just how absolutely balls-to-the-wall fugly this guy was. I wondered just how far G.I.Joe could fall. Answer: not much farther.
It wasn't until years later that I understood that '93 Outback had been slated for the Eco-Warriors but ended up being folded into the main line. Knowing that little tidbit did actually temper my aversion to the figure. I know that the Eco-Warriors employed color changing paint and typically favored bright or neon colors. Of course, today Outback is just another example of Joe silliness and I can appreciate him for being a product of the '90s and Hasbro's desperate attempt to model the Joes after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
