Cobra Sigil: Custom Waterslide Decals ("Bad Mother Tatoos")
Open Hand: Eagle Force Returns
The Rest: Marauders Task Force Parts
This is a simple kitbash/LBC. There are no painted parts. Only stickers and waterslide decals have been added to the figure.
The impetus for making this figure was purchasing a couple new "Faceplate" heads at the Marauders Task Force booth at this year's JoeFest convention in Augusta, GA. Another ongoing frustration of mine is not being able to thin out my Marauders parts bin. I wanted to cobble something together that was clearly based on Cobra Commander, but also different enough to warrant releasing yet ANOTHER version of Cobra Commander onto the world. I had a WWII German Soldier torso in blue. Good start. I also had some blue legs in different styles. I decided on the "Urban Camo" Contract-Ops style legs. This made my Cobra Commander resemble the stereotypical Cuban/South American dictators that I would see on TV. I figured Cobra Commander needed a hat. At first I chose the "fatigue" style cap, but it turned out to be too small for the head. I then tried a blue beret and was satisfied that at least the style seemed consistent with the "dictator" vibe I wanted. Of course the beret proved to be too small for the head as well, but I knew the beret was made of a softer plastic and could be manipulated to fit. As a precaution, I put a little hot glue under the beret to keep it in place and to keep the jaunty angle.
So, after seeing what he looked like, I asked 'why in the world would Cobra Commander choose to wear this outfit?' I settled on the backstory that Cobra Commander routinely visits his Brazilian and Argentine forces to whip them into shape. I see this version of Cobra Commander to be a counterpart to the "Special Mission Brazil" G.I.Joe set from 1986.
