The CATC are the backbone of Cobras airlift supply and transportation network. They are also considered to be the lowest rung on the CAF (Cobra Air Force) ladder, equivalent to the non-Viper Cobra troopers, and thus earn the contempt of the better skilled combat pilots who often have to watch over them in flight.
The pilots that make up CATC are a mixed lot. Some are former Aero or Strato Vipers who have lost their edge or in one form another messed up and were booted down the chain. Many are laid off airline pilots unable to find work, while still others are screw-ups: pilots who lost their licenses for drinking, reckless flying, or some other incident; physically restricted, due perhaps to injury. A small number simply enjoy flying but have no desire to get into combat. That they can fly a C-130 or a small passenger jet is all that matters to Cobra Command.
CATC pilots are relegated to mostly cargo transports, courier duty, or ferrying non-essential personnel (low ranking officers or blueshirts) from point A to point B. A few eventually move up the ladder to become combat pilots, but most either stay where they are or crash and burn (literally).
