This figure was constructed using the Spy Troops Snake Eyes body with many subtle modifications. The head was reworked with a helmet and faceplate to echo the look of the original Iron Grenadier using new parts. Assorted pouches and ammo boxes were added to other sections of the figure, all taken from a variety of non-Joe figures. The original forearms were removed and replaced with alternates, maintaining the swivel wrist feature, but giving the figure bulkier, more menacing hands capable of holding larger weapons. In the pictures, the Dragoon wields a Spy Troops Roadblock minigun that has been modified to accept an ammo belt. That belt can link to the figure's backpack or two the ammo boxes on his legs. Shoulder pauldrons were also added, inspired by the armor of the Spy Troops IG, but thicker and less streamlined than their counterparts, as befitting a more heavily armored trooper.
Among Destro's Iron Grenadiers, the Dragoons are elite heavy weapons troopers who support standard Grenadier combat operations. In addition, they are often the first to field test the latest and most fearsome M.A.R.S. technology, and all Dragoons are cross-trained in advanced weapons engineering and maintenance. Many come from scientific and engineering backgrounds, recruited into Destro's service through the promise of adventure, treasure, and the opportunity to apply their research in ways that normal channels and legalities would never allow. Dragoons are bold, calculating, and ruthless opponents who are just as comfortable in a laboratory as they are laying suppressive fire.
Named after the feared Dragoons of European history, these soldiers live by a proud warrior tradition that's inspired by Destro's personal example. The Laird encourages that tradition to increase their effectiveness on and off the field, but the same levels of higher education and close unit camaraderie that make them so efficient, also alienate them from other troops. Considered overbearing, aloof, and arrogant by lower ranking Grenadiers, they are often the butt of jokes by the "grunts" who feel the specialists are pampered and over-paid. No one complains however, when the Dragoons arrive to breach a fortified position or back them up in a firefight.
