Hands-down one of the best GI Joe vehicles since the "old days", this massive aircraft was begging for a 3.75 scale conversion from the moment it came out.

Since the Dragonhawk was originally scaled (?) to the 2.5 inch Sigma Six figures, I had to remove much of the cockpit interior piece in order to accomodate the regular 1/18 Joe figures. However, as with the Night Ops Vamp, this vehicle seemed a bit oversized for the little figures--and only required a little work to make it friendly for 3.75 inch Joes. This allowed for plenty of room for Wild Bill when I got to modifying the cockpit! After cutting out the 2.5 size seats, I rebuilt them out of sheet styrene, and sunk them lower into the cockpit. I also cut out the yolks and replaced them with new ones set further apart, giving the figures a wider berth.

An important modification was cutting out the bulkhead panel in the front of the cockpit to allow for proper leg room for the "gunner and cargo handler" position. In doing so, I had to be careful not to cut the wires leading to the minigun LED. In addition, I built up the HUDs and control panels with sheet styrene, painted the entire interior insert gun metal, and the seats gloss black.

Finally, I dressed the Dragonhawk up with some aftermarket decals. By setting the new seats fairly low, the figures fit just fine. They can even fit inside wearing helicopter gunship helmets I appropriated from a BBI Elite Force gunner (not pictured).

This vehicle has a lot of play value, and after customizing it, I can say that it works great with my favorite 1/18 scale Joe vehicles. I even discovered along the way that the cradle sold with the single-carded Snake Eyes ninja cycle can fit the RAM or Battle Bear, enabling the Dragonhawk to carry them into battle !
