Commanding a private army is a hard task. It takes money and weapons to run a private army. Destro has the capabilities. Financing a big corporation also takes brokers. That is the reason why Destro made a deal with Tomax and Xamot (CEO's of Extensive Enterprises), so he and the twins can run the Iron Grenadiers.

After a recent uprising, Destro broke away from Cobra to form his own army: the Iron Grenadiers. His goal was to start his own private army but under the guidance of Cobra Commander, he was denied the opportunity.

After seizing the opportunity, he sent out one of his employees to do some recruiting. Upon success, he recruited Scrap Iron. His job is to test the weapons that Destro had invented.

Needless to say, Destro takes pride in his work as the Commander of his army, the Iron Grenadiers.
