I am not sure if I can call Leatherneck my first custom. While I was waiting for the paint to cure, I did a Lazy Bum Custom of Dr. Link Talbot. So I guess I don't know which I did first.

Anyway, I bought this version of Leatherneck way back in the day for the weapons. The "missile launcher" was less then spectacular. I always thought this color scheme was badly chosen for his uniform as well. How realistic is bright yellow and baby blue for a soldier? After I started reading about customizing G.I. Joes many years later, I thought this would be a great chance to work on one of my favorite characters. After I got to looking at his mold, I noticed it was workable and believable.

This is my first custom paint job. I am very pleased with the outcome of the camo pattern and the look of the figure. The first thing I learned doing this, don't overdo the layers of paint!!! Somewhere during the process, I stripped the layers of paint with a tooth brush and started from scratch. I also broke the peg in the right knee joint.
