Cassandra Knox was born with a gifted talent for electronics and advanced technology. She attended the best technical schools she could find and worked to become one of the best Master-technicians the world would see. Unfortunately - like with many other women - the male-dominated society wasn't willing to give her a chance when she sought jobs at different laboratories. Knox had to settle with being a lowly assistant to one of the lesser known Professors in a desolated lab that was not recognized as a master-facility.

It wasn't long before Cassandra Knox discovered that she exceeded her employer in knowledge, and secretly began to do some experiments of her own. When the Professor discovered what she was doing, he did the worst thing anyone could do to her: he stole her work, presented it as his own and was prized for it. In extreme anger, Cassandra Knox blew up the Professor along with his laboratory and took refuge in the underworld to avoid the law. It was there she heard of Cobra and went to seek her fortune there. But like with everybody who enlists with Cobra, she had to start from the bottom. Her knowledge allowed her to join the Techno-Viper division where she worked as a Robotics Contractor, helping to develop remote circuits and advanced machinery that would aid Cobra in their cause.

During the years that followed, she was slowly beginning to get recognized by Cobra High Command when she started to present improvements for the Snake-armors and the Battle Android Troopers. But it was Cobra Commander's constant problems with the devious Dr. Mindbender that soon allowed her to climb up in the ranks. When Dr. Mindbender defected to the Coil and left behind equipment that was locked with his personal codes, Knox used her expertise to unlock them and mastered them for further use. Seeing the unique potential in the otherwise low-classed Viper, Cobra Commander immediately put her in charge of other tasks which she performed with perfect results, and it wasn't long after that when Cobra Commander announced that Dr. Cassandra Knox would replace the treacherous Dr. Mindbender as Cobra's Chief Engineer and Science Officer as a full member of Cobra's high Command. Finally recognized for her skills, Dr. Knox vowed to use her knowledge to bring under Cobra's rule the world that she had lost all respect for.

Personal comments:

I didn't care much for Dr. Knox under her single appearance in the classic Marvel comic. It was in the Devil's Due-story where she came to my liking. Her profile is adapted for my own liking, even though it might correspond to the story in the comics - there were just some parts I skipped. But all in all, I think she is a valuable asset in the G.I.Joe-universe - especially since it lacks so many women.
