There is not much known about Mikhail Derenko, Alias Overlord. It is not even confirmed that it is his real name. What is known has been acquired from pieces of destroyed documents, rumors, stories told by survivors who have encountered him and a lot of guesses.
It is believed that Mikhail Derenko is born in Russia. He is the result of a secret Spetsnaz experiment that attempted to create the perfect agent of terror. The project scientists took the two most prime agents they had and had them conceive a child. The infant was subjected to special physic-increasing drugs already before it was born while the mother had to eat specific meals that would be for the benefit of the infant's health. The woman did not survive the delivery, and the newborn boy was immediately taken to a secret Spetsnaz camp where it would be raised under special conditions that would allow it to become a living death-machine.
During his growth, Mikhail Derenko was injected daily with special hormones that would increase body mass and intelligence. Every day for him was hard labor with weapons training and studying, but aside that he was treated well. At the age of fourteen he was as big and muscular as a full-grown man and an expert with engineering, tracking, combat and weapons. He also knew everything about human anatomy for more efficient killing and/or interrogation. He did his first assassination at the age of fifteen and managed to steal top classified documents from a tightly secured institute without triggering any alarms. It was around that time the scientists discovered the side effects of their project.
It turned out that the daily-injected drugs that would inhibit his nerves in order to increase his pain-tolerance had not only diminished his pain-senses - it had killed them completely. Mikhail Derenko was incapable of feeling pain; therefore he didn't know where the line of personal security was drawn. During an operation where he was engaged in a combat against the Oktober Guard, he was severely wounded, which resulted in the loss of his right hand and his right eye. Derenko did not feel any pain, and his engineering expertise allowed him to build himself a new prosthetic hand, but from that moment he was driven solely by anger towards everything and lust for revenge. But his superiors would not allow him to go out on missions of his own, and that's when he learned that he had everything he wanted except for one thing: personal freedom.
During his solitude of healing he spent the time to construct an exo-suit that he surgically implanted under his own flesh, which doubled his already enormous strength and endurance. He also built diamond-enhanced claws over his hands that would cut through anything that wasn't protected by armor plating. One night he slaughtered everyone in the camp and walked away. Although the scientists were the ones who had raised him, he did not mourn them. Mikhail Derenko was incapable of remorse or regrets. All he felt was a slight satisfaction that he now ruled his own life. He went underground and became an expensive mercenary, whose signature always was a thorough and sometimes extremely messy result.
But for a couple of years there has been no reports or slight traces of Mikhail Derenko of any kind, and during that time, The Coil under the rule of former Cobra Emperor Serpentor came to be. It is not known how Serpentor managed to track him down, and no one can even begin to imagine what Serpentor said to him - but the ruler of The Coil recruited Mikhail Derenko into his organization, and Derenko pledged absolute loyalty to him. Serpentor then gave unlimited funds to Derenko to allow him to construct new weapons and equipment for The Coil's cause, plus the means to construct a personal armor. The armor Derenko constructed for himself is completely bulletproof and coated with stealth-layer, and too heavy to be carried by none other than himself. Mikhail Derenko was now known as Overlord, General of The Coil - one of the worlds most ruthless and strongest and most dangerous men known to mankind. Never engage him alone, he will kill you without hesitation.
Personal Comments:
If I may say so, I think my version of Overlord looks much better than the one portrayed in the Devil's Due-comics, although it was from that I was inspired to do my figure. Overlord looks much better as a bulky giant, and not like the puny little dork that was made back in the old days. This figure is NOT for sale!
The most fun part to do with this figure was the arms: how do you fit ordinary arms in Coil Crusher's torso? The holes are after all too big to hold other arms in place. Here's what I did:
I cut off the "discs" that held Coil Crusher's flexible rubber-arms in place on the inside of the torso and drilled a small hole in the middle of each of them. Thanks to the fact that the "discs" is made of rubber, I could easily squeeze them past the "arrows" of Wet Suit's arms and fix them there. Then I used my dremel to diagonally "dig" out pits around the torso's original holes that would accommodate the new arms and allow them to rotate in any direction.
If you try this, make sure that the holes drilled out in the "discs" are not bigger than the "poles" behind the arrows of the arms you want to use. That way no glue is required. This way you can use Coil Crusher's torso with any arms you desire for your custom-makings.
