A whole bunch of clearance-priced REV's Steelrain. The first time I saw this figure, I thought his color would make him a good Cobra B.A.T. This is what I call a "quick and easy" custom. Minimal-but-sufficient changes in order to create an army-builder. The metallic trim on the shoulders, lower torso, and knees doesn't show up that well, I'm afraid. I think the black-blackground Cobra insignia works well, though, going along with the black hands and feet.
Following the generally successful test of the B.A.T. v.7 prototype, the unit was turned over to Techno-Master for refinement prior to mass production. Techno-Master completely redesigned the head, giving this latest Battle Android Trooper stereoscopic vision, essentially allowing the unit to "see" in three dimensions, far better than any previous B.A.T. He upgraded the targeting system, and recommended alternate construction materials that would make the B.A.T. lighter in weight, but just as durable as before, allowing the B.A.T. v.7.1 units greater speed and agility. Aesthetically, he changed the color scheme to an almost total "Cobra Blue", with a few metallic highlights. In a sense, this allows the B.A.T. to make an unquestioned statement about its allegiance, and as such, its intentions - destruction and mayhem on an inhuman scale. When you consider that this latest B.A.T. can attach weapons to multiple points along its frame, that "scale" takes on some truly frightening implications. Any one of these things is capable of a level of firepower that would require five or six people to accomplish. It doesn't help that they also incorporate a modular design similar to the B.A.T. v.5 and can trade off damaged parts for better ones right on the battlefield.
From General Hawk's files: "One almost has to admire these things. While many tech companies still struggle to build a functioning humanoid robot - that isn't a weapon - Cobra has created multiple versions of a humanoid robot in roughly twenty years, at least half of them in just the last five years. As far as Cobra is concerned, these things are the perfect soldiers. They don't need to eat or sleep, they have no personal ambitions, they don't expect to be paid, they don't require uniforms, medical care, or even plumbing facilities. While the B.A.T.s aren't that inexpensive to produce, weighed against the cost of recruiting, training, and generally taking care of one human soldier, even at Cobra's low levels, the B.A.T.s are probably cheaper. One wonders if there might be a little dissension in Cobra's ranks over this if enough of their rank and file figure it out. If I was a Cobra Viper, I'd be a little worried about my job security..."
