Jasta11 was named for the most successful flying squadron in the German air service.

Once the Red Baron took over as CO of Jasta11, their successes rocketed, claiming 36 victories in the first two months while the Baron was in charge and so many victories over The Royal Flying Corps in April of '17 that it became termed as Bloody April.
