Head, arms, chest: Clone Wars Animated Padme
Legs, waist: SW Mara Jade
Design:
This figure began when I realized that the Padme head was far too small to be used for a Firewall custom. Stuck with the head, I tried to decide what it could be used as. Nothing came to mind. The arms, however, seemed to have a Zanya feel to them. I worked backwards from there, using the entire upper body of the Padme figure and the lower body of a Mara Jade figure. The MJ figure was bulkier than the Padme figure, creating the look of bulky and oversized pants- perfect for Zanya.
The two base figures also combined to make a very short figure, even against ARAH figures. This is an added character-appropriate bonus.
This is the first Dreadnok figure I've done. I may eventually make customs of two of Louis Colli's characters, but for now Zanya's the lone Dreadnok in my customs.
Colors/paint:
The goth look of the Devil's Due appearances are pretty much mimicked here. The "makeup" on the face was important to get right on this figure. The eyes were painted white (a step I normally step), the lips black, and the eyelids dark purple.
I decided to ignore any indications of facial jewelry.
For the shirt, I added the purple to create a "silkscreen" effect to make it look less "Padme" and also to draw out the purple around the eyes.
The knee pads and shin guards were metallic on the source figure. I normally try to alter the appearance from the source figure, but silver was the best color to keep the figure from looking too military. The collar of the shirt was repainted as metal to balance out the silver.
The pants are "dirtyflague" again. Splattered green & yellow washed with white.
Sculpting/modifying:
Zanya's comic book appearances showed her with black/green corn rows. Certainly an interesting look, but even just a few years after Devil's Due created it, the appearance seems dated. I opted for a flowing ponytail design, but still with hints of corn rows towards the front of the scalp. As with my Firewall custom, the ponytail is hot glue sculpted around a wire frame. The green stripe is a Bride of Frankenstein nod.
Cloth folds on the Padme torso were sanded away, while slight folds were added to be the bottom of the shirt/bra.
To make the legs look more like cargo pants, the pockets were sculpted on. The fabric folds along the hips are from a hot glue gun.
Thanks for looking.
