I chose to do a Comic Pack for #50 because it was always an issue from my childhood that stood out. The war raging between G.I. Joe and Cobra, and the great tactical minds of General Hawk and Serpentor at work. I always preferred the way Serpentor was portrayed at this time over the later issues of the comic and the cartoon. This was Serpentor to me. So I wanted to finally make a more comic accurate version of Serpentor.

As I said before, to me, this issue was about the battle of the Commanders: Serpentor vs. General Hawk. So naturally one of the other figures had to be General Hawk. His jacket is painted dark blue and green gloves are painted on his hands to match his appearance in this issue. An AT-ST Driver helmet was chosen also because of the way his helmet looks in this issue, and Hasbro has been known to mix some items between the Star Wars and G.I. Joe lines.

The third figure was a little harder to decide on. I finally decided to go with a Crimson Guard civilian for a couple of reasons. Even though this particular character was only in one frame, his appearance, I felt, really showed what the "civilians", and their families, were going through during the battle of Springfield. They were ordered to destroy everything they couldn't bring with them, including pets. So again his family's pet dog "Sandy" was a natural choice for an accessory.

Crimson Guard Civilian

The Crimson Guard are the elite shock troops of the Cobra Legions. They are dispersed about the country in deep cover, assuming apparently normal appearances and life-styles. Watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours might just have a red uniform hanging in his closet. Some Crimson Guardsmen are stationed in the Cobra town of Springfield taking up normal lives with families. When the G.I. Joe team attacks the town, and the evacuation is started, they are instructed to erase all evidence of Cobra activity, and destroy everything that they can not bring with them. Unfortunately, this also includes their pets....

Serpentor

A secret cabal of Cobra scientists, under the direction of Dr. Mindbender and Destro, combed the tombs, sarcophagi, and relics of the great despots of history to find cells with DNA traces. From these long-dead genetic blueprints they produced a composite clone with the military genius of Napoleon, the ruthlessness of Julius Caesar, the daring of Hannibal, and the fiscal acumen of Attila the Hun. A master of political intrigue and a brilliant tactician, he is the ultimate Cobra soldier!

General Hawk

Hawk was the original field commander of the Joe Team before he got his General's star and was booted upstairs to honcho the entire G.I. Joe operation. He's a West Point graduate and has a list of special education credits as long as his arm, but he still managed to get the main body of his experience out where it counts - on the battle field.

"Hawk's the type of commander who goes out and gets shot at like everyone else. Troops respect that. They know he won't ask them to do anything he isn't willing to do himself. And that's why they are willing to do anything Hawk tells them."
