Operation Cajun Badger-Battle in the Bayou
Transcript of General Hawk's Briefing:
A rocket was launched two hours ago from Cobra Island, in the Gulf of Mexico. The rocket's payload was an experimental satellite armed with a particle-beam canon. Once in orbit, this canon would be powerful enough to destroy areas up to 10 miles across with one blast. Thanks to quick thinking from Mainframe and Sparks, we were able to launch a missile volley from the Flagg to take down the rocket. However, it wasn't destroyed. The rocket crashed somewhere in the Louisiana swamps.

Cobra has already dispatched a team to retrieve it. We believe that they sent two of their best agents. Colonel Bludd is leading the team and Copperhead was sent because of his swamp fighting expertise. They are leading a squad of Jungle Vipers and will be meeting up with Range Vipers already in the area.

Because of the importance of this mission, we've assembled all of GI Joe's best swamp, jungle and amphibious fighters. Flint will be in charge. Your Tomahawk is waiting on the tarmac to take you to the Jane II. Deep Six and Topside will meet you there. Good hunting! Yo Joe!

Flint

This Group Project has allowed me to revisit several customs that had been assembled, started or on the to-do list for some time. Flint is one of these customs. After making my "ultimate" Duke for the Customs Celebration, I assembled an ultimate Flint in PoC/30th style, but never got around to painting it until now.
------------------------------------------------------- ----------------
For this project, I wanted to emulate the type of offerings that the GIJCC put out every year. I had a few criteria:

- Lots of paint apps
- No (or few) modified parts
- Weapons and accessories are all (mostly) from Hasbro's Joe line
- Vehicles are all from Hasbro's Joe line

I really wanted this set to "feel" like an authentic Club set. I pretty much stayed within these self-imposed guidelines. I only broke these rules a couple of times. My justification was that the Club has been tooling up new parts (on a limited basis) in the last few years.

Muskrat

A jungle themed set without him would be a missed opportunity. I had a spare jungle Duke body in my fodder bin, when I put RoC Dusty's head with it, the camouflage patterns fit together well and I was off to the races. Lowlight's vest fits nicely and covers up the reactive armor on the chest.

Wreckage

Wreckage was on my list from the start. My first draft of the storyline for this set had the Joes infiltrating a Cobra training camp in the Louisiana bayou. Wreckage was accompanied the team to blow up the compound. When the storyline was revised to a downed Cobra satellite, it still made sense to include Wreckage. If the Joes fail to secure the satellite, they would have to blow it up to prevent Cobra from retrieving it.

Leatherneck

Leatherneck has been assembled since the Create-a-Con-Set Group Project came up the first time (In 2010?). He was the first Joe I wanted to include in this set and although the make-up of the team fluctuated quite a bit during the creative process, Leatherneck was always a part of the roster. However, when I lined up all my Joes before painting, his parts just didn't jive with the rest of the team's. My first attempt was made from early 25th parts that hadn't aged well (next to the more modern PoC/30th parts). Keeping only the head, I went back to the drawing board and I like the way he turned out.

Pathfinder

Another late addition to the set (like Muskrat), Pathfinder had been on my to-do list for a couple of years. When I was searching the Joe ranks for jungle fighters, I remembered that I had assembled an early version of Pathfinder and had stored him in my to-do customs bin. This project allowed me to pull him out and update him with more modern parts.

Cross Hair

Cross Hair is a figure that started for the Dino-Hunters Group Project. Due to the figure limit, he didn't make the cut at the time. This con set gave me an excuse to go back and finish him. I based him off of his Valor vs Venom color scheme. Since the two other color schemes are cool too (especially the urban one), I may try to put together all the parts to make them as well.

Major Bludd

At first, my two lead Cobras were Croc Master and Copperhead. Both made sense in a swamp setting, however, they don't strike me as characters that could lead soldiers into battle. I felt the set needed a leader. Bludd made sense and gave me an excuse to make an updated PoC version of the character. I found that the Resolute Zartan was a perfect base and the figure just flowed from there.

Range Viper

I had been looking for an excuse to make some environmentally-specific Range Vipers for while. When this project came along, I thought it was a perfect chance to create a squad of the jungle version of this trooper. Rather than simply repainting the 25th version, I wanted to re-interpret the figure somewhat. In the end, aside from the helmet/mask, all the parts are different from its 25th counterpart.

Jungle-Viper

I went back and forth on this figure several times. I knew I wanted to include some jungle Cobras in the set, but could not find an interesting recipe for Jungle Vipers. In the end, I decided to homage the Operation Flaming MOTH Night Viper. I made the color scheme a little darker to keep it Night-Viper-ish, but tried to keep the same feel as the Club

Wet Suit

I know, the Club has already done a land based Wetsuit in the Brazil Mission II Con set. However, since I don't have that set, I decided to make my own version. At first, I was going to replicate the Club's offering. However, once I pieced together Torpedo and Shipwreck, Wetsuit didn't look right. The Club's recipe used mostly 25th parts that didn't match up very well with the mostly PoC parts in the other two characters in my 3-pack. So I decided to create my own version. I gave him curly hair like the toon.

Shipwreck

I've wanted to make a Valor vs Venom inspired Shipwreck for a while now. This project finally gave me the excuse to do it. I hesitated between this green version and the darker blue version (also from VvV). In the end, I decided to make both by renaming the blue version Wet-Down. Green Shipwreck won out for this pack, so that it would match with the other two characters.

Chief Torpedo

Inspired by the Chief Torpedo figure from Spytroops, this figure is my second attempt at the land based version of the character. I had put together an LBC a while back, but I really wanted a more accurate version. The PoC parts and the original figure's gear worked very well together, so I ran with it.

Deep Six

After seeing a picture of Deep Six in his Gilligan hat on-line, I knew I wanted to include him in this set. That's when the "Naval Support 2-Pack" was born. I liked the idea that the Joe's amphibious assault team would be launched from the Jane II and this gave me the in-story excuse I needed to add this version of the character to my list.

Topside

Yet another character that has been on my to-do list for while, Topside was included in this set after Deep-Six was added. The Jane II needed a crew and Topside was perfect for the job.

Swamp Viper

These have been on the drawing board for a long time, several years in fact. I have tried parting together a decent version of the character, but I never managed to find the right parts. Finally, with the Ret head and 30th Techno-Viper parts, I feel I have a worthy Swamp Viper.

Another figure that has been on my to-do list for a while, Crazy-Legs was my only 1987 figure when I was a kid. When deciding on a parachute drop figure for this set, I briefly hesitated between CL and Freefall. In the end, Crazy Legs won out for nostalgic reasons and also because I wanted to bolster my Night Force team.

Copperhead was a last-minute addition to this project. I wanted a second named Cobra agent in the set. With Copperhead's swamp fighting expertise, it was a natural fit. Also, I felt that the Water Moccasin needed its original driver. I painted him up in a color scheme that matches the Swamp Vipers.

Another logical choice for this set, I struggled a bit with the color scheme for this vehicle. At first, I experimented with painting on a diamond pattern. When my experiments did not pan out, I went with straight black with blue highlights. With the stickers and the driver, I like the way it turned out.

Demolition-Viper came about when I added the Cobra satellite to the vehicles list. I was including drivers for all of the set's vehicles and the wanted one for the satellite as well. I toyed with the idea of having some kind of astronaut or Astro-Viper, but I felt that it did not fit the theme. I also considered making an jungle Tele-Viper, but in the end, the Demolition-Viper was the most logical choice. I re-imagined the figure. Rather than a straight repaint, I swapped out some parts. His role is to secure the critical parts of the satellite and destroy the rest.

The back story for this set revolves around a downed Cobra satellite. I started thinking about how to include it in the set. I played around with several ideas (including kitbashing and repainting an R2-D2 figure). In the end, I settled on a realistic approach, a repainted ARAH vehicle. I did away with the legs and the missiles and repainted the whole thing. Any solar panels that the satellite had were torn off in the crash and all that is left is the body.

In doing research for Shipwreck for the 3-pack, I came upon a blue version of the character that was originally included with the Piranha boat back during the Valor vs Venom days. I liked this version so much that I wasn't sure if I wanted Shipwreck to be blue or green. In the end, I decided to make both by renaming the blue version Wet-Down.

A logical inclusion (at least I believe so) in this set, the assault raft is simply a green version of the Cobra Night Landing.

Yet another figure that has been on my to-do list for a while, I included Sneak Peek in the set as a preview for the Membership renewal figure.
