G.I. Joe Special #1
I have nearly every variation of the Mcfarlane Spider-man Number 1 cover, including all of the homage covers. It is, by far, my favorite comic cover, and G.I. Joe Special 1 is no exception. Since this group project was first mentioned, I knew this would be the cover I created. It was a lot more work than I had anticipated, but I feel that it all paid off. I am extremely satisfied with the finished product.

Snake Eyes

For Snake Eyes, I have had this Spawn figure for years with the idea of doing this cover. The modifications took a while, especially since Mcfarlane loves spikes everywhere.

As for the other parts, the visor and swords had me stumped. I bought a 12 inch movie Storm Shadow figure, but the swords were too big. I had planned on modifying them, but in the end, I scratch made the swords.

I think they turned out better that way. The visor was inspired by Vanishing Point's Sigma 6 customs. He once used a Rapid Rollers Cobra Commander head, which gave me the idea for this figure.

Getting the perspective right was one of the most difficult things to wrap my head around. I never expected the back of the box to be nearly twice as wide as the front, but when I started laying things out, it turned to work quite well. I cut all the plywood and pieced it together with super glue. I used wood filler and spackling to smooth and fill the seams. The inner building itself gave me the most trouble. I kept adding and cutting, adding and cutting. I used a corner pieces of crown moulding as the base and built upon with small pieces of wood for the brick effect. I hoped that the light would cast out more onto Snake Eyes, but it just did not reflect off the mirrors strongly enough. All in all, though it was tedious, it was one of my favorite parts to work on. The cover images themselves came from a scan of the comic, and background was created to match that of the original comic. Though it took a while to print and cut out the images, I love how it really ties everything together. I plan on adding a plexiglass top to keep dust out of the box, and I may eventually decorate the outside of the box, though I have not decided yet how.
