In order for a Cobra soldier to be picked to be an Assualt Viper and operate the A.S.P. (Assualt System Pod) they have to excel in targeting and fireing skills. They must also be able to work as part of a coordinated attack or hold their ground alone. Cobra Commander does not tolerate failure and expects the Assualt Vipers to be the first line of defense on Cobra Island or surprise the enemy on a stealthy attack.

Cutter: I've seen my share of these guys on our missions to Cobra Island and I can honestly say those are some nasty snakes. When you hit them you better hit them hard and not leave anything but a black hole because they don't know the meaning of the word "surrender". The Whale has actually been fired upon by a pulverized ASP with a single functioning cannon.
