Ahh...Raptor. A dead tax consultant in a bird suit. How can one be expected to make that cool? Well, the first step was reviving him. Like my R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Taurus, I opted to work from the established characterization rather than completely reinvent the character. Of course, I took considerable liberties with Raptor's characterization (see filecard).
I'd actually had the idea for the figure design for quite awhile. It just took this project to give me an excuse to pursue it. This custom was a complete blank slate. I sanded down *everything* on the existing parts (except for the eyes) and sculpted on the brown uniform details (as well as doing some sculpting around the brow and nose on the face).
I think his major weakness is that he may look too much like a super hero or something and not enough like Raptor. I tried a few techniques to give him wings/feathers, but I eventually reached a conclusion - There's no way for a grown man to wear feathers and not look stupid. So, I just went with him the way he is...plain, basic, unfettered.
