It is believed the creature known as Ridley originates from Zebes, possibly created by the Chozo or Mother Brain. He is highly intelligent, cunning, vicious and without mercy. Taking command of the Space Pirates he spearheaded their operations, eventually settling on Zebes and allying with Mother Brain. She would have told Ridley of the Metroids, and their uses. However before the pirates could exploit the Metroids, Samus blew up their base, along with Mother Brain and Ridley.
Ridley was discovered by a second group of pirates, and transferred to the frigate Orpheon. There he was revived and surgically enhanced, becoming Meta-Ridley, a fearsome cyborg. Samus had tracked the ship, and boarding it ended up accidentally dropping a giant bug into the reactor, causing it to melt down. Ridley escaped his bonds before his enhancements were complete and fled to the planet below. Crashing into the jungle below he encountered a human known as Cobra Commander. This man was apparently expecting Ridley to be a government satellite or some such. However the Commander knew Megaton, a good friend of Ridley's, and had helped him out in a similar situation some years before hand. Ridley allied with Cobra, as he could use them to finish rebuilding him and shield him until he was ready to fight The Hunter.
Ridley was quite fun to make, but he's BIG - 17" long and 22" wide. He's fully posable, with 30 points of articulation and he just looks evil. I modelled him on his Metroid Prime appearance as Meta-Ridley, though after Metroid Prime he goes back to being a non-cyborg. But given he is the second boss in all but two Metroid games and gets killed every single time, maybe they clone him after cyborganising him didn't go so hot. The colour scheme isn't too exciting, but it is accurate, and he does look really big and evil, so it works for me. The head sculpting turned out well, given his eves, most of his forehead and beak are all done in green stuff. The wings were a big mess, as the ones I wanted to use were warped, so I scratch built the skeleton out of plastic tubing. I ran out of time to make a decent Metroid, so I will make one but I didn't want to do a rush job.
