I think they annouced the hotel and location information a couple months ago so people could go ahead and and lock in the room, time off and travel plans. They were late on this since a late June convention was usually annouced in January. There really shouldn't be any suprises on the cost of the set. It is always about the same every year for the set, $220-$240. If a difference of $20 breaks anyone's back, they probably shouldn't go.
I can tell you that if you want to go and you are flying, book the flight now. Gas prices are only going higher this summer and so will the costs of the flights. IMO, the figure set shouldn't be your only reason for attending. After all you can get it through the mail. The convention has lots of other events to do but the thing that makes it worth it is hanging out with friends.
