New to me, I thought it was called the bomb rack, but the stand up guns idea might be a good idea, I hadn't tried, but mine isn't that inaccessible...

Nope all ammo/weapon storage locations (inside the skin of the ship) on US Navy ships are called magazines (or MAGS for short).
Just different acording to what they hold.
Examples?
The missle mag/magazine, small arms mag/magazine, the torpedo mag/magazine, the C.W.I.S. mag/magazine and so on.
Now on the flightdeck where they store armaments near the superstructor is called the bomb farm.
(Navy vet. 14yrs fmr Damage Controlman 1st Class)
It was my job to know where they were and maintain the firemain in case of a fire or attack and if need be coordinate with the Gunner's Mates to put out said fires.
I loved that job. . . .

I recently had to pull apart my Flagg for dusting. In the process of doing that, I saw the bomb rack and started playing around with missiles that might fit. I know the Flagg was made the year before the Tomahawk, but the large missiles on the sides of it fit perfectly in the rack.

Bringing to life a dead thread- but for future lookers- it’s the SHARK torpedoes.
You’re welcome.

i'm glad old threds can be bumped and replied to here on JC. I recently went through the hoops to join a gun forum that had a lot of topics regarding a certain brand I have. I couldn't read any replies without joining. so I joined (took 2 days to get approved). finally I went to post in those threds and got a message " site mods have locked replies to this thred because it is too old\\ start a new thred!" . there is literally no activity on there since mid 2019. oh well.

Okay, saw this post again and I didn't have anything better to do with this panic everyone is on, so I figured I would dig out some stuff and try this out.

Forgive me, as it seems like the majority of the missiles I was able to get in the rack from '84-'86 are from Cobra originally. Though in the defense, I only was able to dig up like eight or so vehicles.

From these pictures, I have left to right:
(back row) Rattler (or Tiger Rat) bomb, Raven bomb, Sky Hawk missile, Rattler (or Tiger Rat) bottom section of 2-piece bomb, Tomahawk bomb
(front row) Snowcat missile, Rattler (or Tiger Rat) small bomb, Moray missile

Rearranged them and took this one:

Really wanted to see if the torpedo from the Shark would have worked, but wasn't able to dig one up. I would say anything that is around the sizes of the ones pictured should work and anything smaller like the FANG missiles would also fit, just not very well like the Sky Hawk does. Would have like to try the Sky Strikers also, but was unable to find any. Though I would think the small and medium missiles would. Not too many would work on their sides though and fewer would when you have others standing up.

I hope this puts a part of this question to rest, though I would really like to know what the designers had in mind for the use of it. I will have to test out backpacks next in some of the spots.
