I've been in the Navy for 5 years and on a aircraft carrier the past 3. And the CO and XO of the carrier are allways ex-aviators. In order to become a CO or XO of a nuclear aircraft carrier they must complete nuclear officer training. I could understand how someone can get confused, on a carrier there is so many O-5's and O-6's running around as department heads it would be hard for someone not assigned to that ship to tell who is the actual CO
