Could T-hooks be made to withstand the stress of an o-ring?

I doubt it. ABS is pretty sturdy, but that's a lot of stress. There are individuals and companies working on affordable FDM printers that will print metal, but nothing feasible yet.

Holy cow! 25 micron resolution? That puts it at the point of being virtually indistinguishable from injection molded pieces. And color changes on the fly? This is pretty impressive. The price tag is really up there, but this is a first of its kind, and it'll only get cheaper and better.

Beautiful, and yeah, this is what the tech is capable of.

Soon this will be the standard. The $50 cartage price concerns me, but I do like that the filler material is a different and cheaper cartage to make it easier to remove from the model.

T - 2 years and counting - till this is mainstream.

At $100 price point, I am very tempted by this.

And now the innovation starts. Instead of creating a printer that works like a printer, he's created something that works more like a bacta tank. And he's included the camera to 3d scanning software, as well as a laser scan software. This is absolutely one to watch for our purposes. Plus unlike the others, you could totally put this in a Dio when you're not using it.

And the Peachy Printer is a Canadian invention, proving that we're not all hockey and maple syrup up here. :-)

Update: Backed it.

I love that the use of the fluid means that you don't have to build in the support materials. Way less wasted resin.

I was just reading about it on a 3D printer forum. It's interesting, but I'm going to take a wait and see on it. Once they start shipping and people post reviews, I may want to snag one. It's definitely exciting news, and even if this model turns out to be not so hot, if they open source it like they say they will, then there should be better and better models coming out down the road.

Wow. While i'm not impressed with the resolution of the printer as has been mentioned open source = future improvements. And at $100? That canuck is a genius.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it performs Raptor. A printer is the last of my trinity that ive yet to acquire.

I agree, I am not expecting micron resolution out of the thing. In fact, I am not really expecting that it'll be fantastic for customizing more than very simple and somewhat fuzzy heads.

But I love his approach of rethinking the entire printer concept and using liquid as the support material for the resin, then curing it with lasers. Freakin lasers.

I haven't done kickstarters before, but this seemed like something that I wanted to throw my money behind. I really want this guy to succeed.

SLS is what the professional printers use (such as Shapeways). UV-cured resin can have a much higher resolution than melted-deposited plastics. I'm fascinated by this because the cheapest I've seen an SLS style printer was >$3,000, still well out of my price range for a hobby tool. If I can get one/build one for <$500, I'll be all over it. And if his product proves to work, then I'll have it.

Resurrecting this thread because just imagine what could be done with this bad boy. Full color pantone quality printing. You could print out stuff and not worry about paint chipping, because the thing was printed in the colors you wanted.
