Is it is a Joe? I think Cobra Commander has 42, but at the same time, how many different versions are there of Star Wars characters like Luke or Obi?

Snake Eyes is close behind (even counting the classified version).


It would be kind of cool if it was a Joe, and especially if it was Snake Eyes.

They're listed by version at YoJoe.Com, and when I was visiting over there the other day, I was floored to see the count on Snake-Eyes at (if memory serves) 39, and that probably doesn't include a couple that just aren't out yet. I didn't check Cobra Commander, but I would imagine those two are pretty much neck-and-neck, with Duke and Storm Shadow fairly close behind. Not sure anyone else is even in the neighborhood.

Is that the most for any action figure/character ever produced though not including Gi Joe?

wouldn't scooby or snoopy with all their myriad little figures and what not count, or are you asking(and more appropriately) just about one line making one figure?

I'd say vader and luke are good bets as well, but can they beat SE and CC, I don't know.

If you count foreign exclusives and such, there's been a hell of a lot of Optimus Primes as well. It's probably Batman, since there were 100 different versions of him back when Kenner still had the license in the mid 90s, and given how many there have been since I'm sure it's over 200 now. Spider-Man and Wolverine would probably come next.

I got curious about this one, so I did a little research. Based on a rough count (I may have missed a couple of things), and trying to limit it to 3 3/4" figures, with some kind of unique paint or mold difference (as in, no straight repacks), here's the final tally for a few of the major players in the Star Wars line:

-Luke Skywalker: 58 different versions (65 if you include the vintage line)

-Darth Vader: 45 different versions (46 if you include vintage); that's just Vader in the armor; no Anakin Skywalker.

-Obi-Wan Kenobi: 49 different versions (50 if you include vintage); that includes both old and young Obi-Wan.

So there you go. Whoever mentioned Batman is probably right on the money, though: that character has been beaten to within an inch of his life in terms of the number of versions of him.

Actually according to yojoe on the fig pages there is 42 CC's and 40 snake eyes. This isn't counting the weirdo a and b's and .5's that are in the listings.

What does get hard to count is the repaints (think Spy Troops, that vesion was painted at least 4 times alone) do they count as a unique or a repack.

If you make it him/her, I'd say Barbie.

Well Narceron brought up an interesting point.
If you say Barbie sure perhaps it is her, but with Barbie it is a brand centered on one character (Ken and the rest are supporting characters). Therefore if you count all the diff barbies through the years, you have to really do the same with every single "Gi Joe" as it was a brand centered on many characters called "gi joes."

If that is the case, breaker is just as much a part and a unique version as snake eyes.

Ditto for any line where there was one sole hero with supporting characters (thereby making that hero a necessity for versions. Not someone you can avoid to keep peaking interest in the line. I.e. there would be no batman line without a batman figure.

Understanding that I think it obvious Star Wars has the joes beat.

Based on Sgartz numbers, the winner would be Vader - if you count all the Anakin variants. So, for this argument, are Vader and Anakin one in the same?

No way is the vader I grew up with that whiny aniken skywalker.

In my day, and my trilogy, Vader was totally merciless and vicsious, saved only by the love for his son.

In this day and age, waah, my mommy is dead, wahh, the jedi don't like me, waaah, obiwan is a better jedi, that can't be vader.

Man, batman vs barbie, that would be a showdown.

I can not see the logic. Maybe if we're talking about all the 12" Joes who were nameless, I can see clumping them all together as a single character, but Barbie is definitely distinct from all the other characters in her line and therefore any Barbie doll not named Barbie should be treated like any action figure in a Batman toyline not named Batman: They are different characters. I see no reason to say that all GI Joes should be counted as the same character just because they are all members of the same team which happens to share a name with the toyline.

I think Narceron nailed it. There are more toys of the Barbie character than any other individual character ever, with Batman most likely the character with the second most toys based on it.

I'd take it one step further and say Batman has the most figures in different scales. Mego, lego, Super Powers, movie lines 5", DCUC 6" , 18", 12", 1/18 (microman, DCIH, Dark Knight), cartoon versions 5-7".

Okay, going beyond G.I.Joe, and perhaps discounting Barbie if we want to stay within action figures, I'd have to say Batman.

The only question in my mind after that point would be the 12" G.I.Joe. Since this was a character that was technically unnamed, other than being called G.I.Joe, do we count every 12" G.I.Joe from the original 1960's-70's line, plus the Hall of Fame, plus the Classic Collection, plus the Timeless Collection, plus all the 12" stuff that wasn't centered on 3-3/4" characters (speaking of which, did those counts on Snake-Eyes and Cobra Commander include their 12" and Sigma versions? Heck, let's get really nitpicky and include their Micro Figures), or was a named individual such as George Washington, Bob Hope, or Bulletman, as a version of "G.I.Joe"? (Not even going to comment on the ethnic/racial diversity here). And what about the uniform sets that could turn G.I.Joe into, at least, an entirely different specialist?

Keeping that in mind, that might just outdo Batman, but I think it'd be close.

I didn't count Anakin Skywalker's figures, but there have been a ton of them made over the last 10 years or so. If you counted them along with Vader, I'd guess the number would be closer to 80 or thereabouts. I'm not going to find out the exact number, because looking at that many Anakin Skywalker figures would make me sad.
