Though the official website won't be live until next monday, it would seem that one will have to get an online comic books subscription to get the SHIELD Commander.

What do you think?

Crap, total crap. I don't give a squat about 99% of the stuff they crank out nowadays, why the hell would I want to read them online? I'm really hoping there's some other way to get this (other than ebay  ), but I doubt it.

If I only have to get a 3 month subscription, then I'm ok with that. I mean, how much did folks pay for Doc, afterall?

Yeah, but we had to buy figures we either wanted or could otherwise use as fodder. This... This is just some e-comic, it's not like you even physically get anything. Want to read that issue of Thor in the doctor's office? Too bad, you can only look at it on your computer.

If it was try it for a month and get the figure I might be up for that. It would give me a reason to test the waters of both would I like the digital format for comic books and is Marvel putting out any comic books that I'd find to be an interesting read.

Not so sure on the 3 month deal though because what if I try it and find that I don't like it or the comic books aren't a fun read any more. Seems like I'll be paying a good deal then for just the Nick Fury figure. Well unless shipping and handling was thrown in for free then the price wouldn't seem as bad.

I'm with Billy on this one - $25, while excessive for a single figure, really doesn't seem that excessive when I consider how much I paid to get the Doc figure (and how much I would have paid to get the Crystal Skeleton figure if I had been collecting the Indy line in time). Also, considering that I'm still stuck with 15 or so long boxes of comics that I don't read, if I'm going to read comics, I like the idea of not being stuck with physical copies of them.

Is the Sam Jackson Nick Fury? If not then pass.

Nope.

I get it from a business perspective. Help sell something that the figures are based on. Get people interested in it who might not be otherwise.

To me, this is an easy pass. Remember when that Star Wars Battlefront game came out with an exclusive stormtrooper? Same thing. If I have no use for the product I have to buy in order to get the figure, then I don't care about that figure.

At least with the comic packs and the indy figures I was interested in the product. Even the craptastic wave 1 of the comic packs have been added to the collection, used for customs, or sold off to recoup some costs. It wasn't a total loss. Getting Fury this way would be the equivalent of those cereal give aways where you have to buy 8 boxes of cereal to get it and you don't even like the cereal so you dump it down the drain. I just don't want a figure that badly.

I will say this though. The price isn't horrible. BBTS is charging $15 for figures from the latest wave of MU figures. This would only be $10 more for the subscription. But I still won't get it out of principal.

So I guess the question is: What comic am I going to subscribe to for 3 months?

So since this has a swappable "Generic SHIELD Agent" head, how do we get multiples? I wanted at least 4, but that seems like it won't be an option now.

Dude this is LAME!

You don't subscribe to a specific comic, you get access to the entire Marvel online catalog, which is a lot of books. I'd been considering a subscription anyway since there's some stories only available on there I was curious to read, so I'll probably bite. I do agree that it's not the best way to go about this promotion though.

Drew, the generic swappable SHIELD agent head comes with the TRU Marvel Legends 2-pack, not this figure. There looks to be a lot of new parts on the MU Fury though, so I'm pretty sure we'll see a generic agent down the line so they can recoup some of the cost. I find it sad and annoying that the one MU figure I really like the looks of is a mailaway promo, since the line itself hasn't really impressed me.

Huh. . . I'd have sworn this fig was supposed to come with an alternate head.

Makes sense that it wouldn't though.

Yeah, I'm not doing this. Any comic that I would want to read that is on there, I own. I don't care for really old stuff, and the new stuff is 6-12 months behind. I also hate reading things like that on a screen. Part of what is relaxing about comics is that it pulls you away from the online world and really helps you to get away for 15 minutes. Now I hope the figure isn't detailed well and that it's just painted on detail, like many of the other figures in the line, which is my biggest gripe with the line. That way, I won't have to bother hunting it down.

I see what you're saying about getting figs you wanted for Doc, but lets be honest. There is always one knockout in a comic pack and one dud. So really, you're paying for one fig, one for possible fodder, and the chance to pay S&H for a Doc.

I'm with Tex, though. I would have preferred an Ultimate Nick.

Except with those early comic packs, where wave 1 was like Breaker and 5 duds. Man did that ever piss me off.

At the time.
