Maybe this thread should have been in autobiographical, but I guess it fits here too.

Some time last year, I got in contact with a museum in the city, the Norwegian Children's Museum. This museum is a branch of Stavanger Museum - one of the bigger ones in Norway, and is located right in the centre of the city of Stavanger.

The museum invited me to a meeting to hear about my collection, and said they wanted to put my joes on display this autumn (2009). The theme is war toys for children, and they think Joes will fit into this. This is a rotating exibition, and my collection will be on display for a year.
They are including me in this process, which I like, but I also fear I'll end up doing a lot of free work :-|

Now, they also want me to write an article about Joes, which is to be published in a yearbook for toys.

-----

What I know so far:
- The museum will bring in external people to "decorate", as they say. I don't know what this means, but I susepct it may be the people who makes the collection look good on display. Obviously I can't let them do this without me, and I have been asked, and agreed to be a part of this process.
- The collection is going to be put in 4-5 glass displays. They are varied in sizes, and I fear I may not be able to unfold the MMC for instance. They are long and narrow.
- The museum wants small information posters around the collection.
- They also said everything was interesting: other toy lines, other joe related items, empty boxes etc. So I'm guessing there's a possibility that I can be creative here (read: customs on display).
- Giving children the oportunity to play with joes or even buy their own vintage joes. The museum liked this idea, but I'm not sure how they plan on doing this.

-----

Ok, I'll probably ask for both help and input from the community, and it would be great to hear some immediate thoughts about this whole situation.
I'll also try to document the process as best as I can. And promote customizing of toys of course when I get the oportunity :)

that's great souley G, glad it came through for you.

Now you need to get rare ham wrapped wet suit in there so the Joe world will know it's a legit variant.

Congrats Souly,
Sounds like this will be great exposure for the Joe community and for your collection and bringing kids into the realm. If you need anything, let me know and I'll see what I can help with. :-P

wait wait.. did I say "easter"?

lol at my english. I meant AUTUMN. So good time to find missing parts and write nice stories about toys.

And yes, my toys will be away for a year, so I have to put something else on my shelves.

Do you think you will still be enthusiastic about about adding to your collection with it not being in your home for a year ?

Update: 25th september is the date my collection is shuttled off to museum for a year. I'll take lots of pictures.
Going to have a meeting with the museum next week about logistics, how to make the displays work. Now is the time to come with suggestions to any easter eggs we can include in the display. :D
