Hey folks... I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the fury force artwork that surfaced back in 02' or 03' and showed the original concept ideas for the team, which later turned into some of the original Joe characters. Ive been searching for a long time only to manage to get one group shot and just broken links for most everything else. If anyone else has them on a photobucket account somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it! Rock |

The pictures that came up on the search are no good, they belong to dead links from a photobucket account and they arent even the pics Im looking for anyways.. but thanks for trying... |

My buddy actually has the actual page cutout from that issue which shows the interview and group shot. If you can't get it, I can ask him to scan it and I will post it. |

Are you looking for the Fury Force picture of a team of commandos grouped together or the GI Joe prototype drawings from the original presentation between Hasbro & Mattel which I photographed at Larry Hama's house during the time period you referenced? The latter consisted of individual skectches of the original characters and a table of contents where Larry Hama made notes and scribbled his original code name ideas. -CJack |

Note Fury Force was NOT the original concepts it was the concept for another comic series Larry had which got rolled into GI JOE - but my photos are the original Rudat concept sketches. |

Alright, I was a little perturbed by the Fury Force urban legend BS but Stan asked me to post the link, so I will. Although I'd like to know first what you plan to do with them? Reprint them for sale? Make customs? You know how much beer those pics cost me? Actually none, I expensed it. And I'm pretty sure we had breakfast not beer that day. You know someone saw these pics when I originally posted them and went back and bought the folder from Larry - the current whereabouts are unknown. So I'm like a hero for obtaining these pics and making them public to the community. That person also didn't buy Larry breakfast or beer. What a dick, huh? Larry drinks good beer, he knows the best spot in lower Manhatten. Okay, I'll post the pics again, but first you all must say, Quote: "CabanaJack, you're my hero" come on say it...................... Okay, here ya go: Hah, made you say it! Okay here is the link for real. The hairy fingers are Larry's, not mine. (I'm bored, so I just entertain myself.) . |

Okay now those are the pics I already had. I understood those to be pics put together for the G.I. Joe concept and not Fury Force. The fury force pics I have seen look completely different. For instance. "Spook" has a cowl and almost looks like he's a masked superhero. The version you posted is a "skull cap with mustache commando". These pics all surfaced back in '02 when some guy bought all of the original Fury Force stuff. I have the group shot, and I think I have one or two of the individual shows, but I was looking for Spook specifically and any others. There is an article online covering everything that also had the pics, but the link went dead and the wayback machine didn't save the image links Thanks for everyone's efforts on the subject. |

Okay but just to be straight, those Fury Force pics were never GI Joe concept art. Just reused ideas from a concept Larry drafted pre-GI Joe. Similarly I have a comic book Larry gave me that he wrote for a superhero series using an unused GI Joe special missions script he'd written. Didn't make those superhero guys GI Joe. You follow? Doesn't do any body any good to bastardize history. Thats how you end up with "LASER BLAST" like the second image I'm about to post. Now that you know what you're talking about heres Spook: Note the title on this image is not historicaly acurate. Larry merged an earlier idea for a commando for Fury Force, Spook, into the commando, Snake eyes, Ron Rudat designed. Therefore this is not the first prototype for Snake Eyes, it is a first prototype for Spook. The first prototype for Snake Eyes is the one that I posted earlier. Attachment: Spook.jpg [ 213.99 KiB | Viewed 1405 times ] And here's someone confusing the history of GI Joe. Except for Baroness, Larry didn't create the characters that ended up in the original toy line, they were created by designers and Larry was given the toy design and gave them life - so the connections this image tries to convey is pure coincidence not "origins" Attachment: Origins.jpg [ 206.39 KiB | Viewed 1405 times ] |

BINGO! I had the group shot, but no close up of Spook. I never saw what the close up looked like... that one appears to be just a blow up from the group shot. Do you know if any other one existed? And I know you're right about Fury Force not being the concept pitch for G.I. Joe. My interest in seeing Spook is more about the actual inspiration for Spook, which was Pahoo-ka-ta-wah from the old westerns. I am also curious to know if any of the attributes from the old indian side kick was later on used as a basis for some of Snake Eyes attributes. The mute assassin who was bad-ass (Pahoo-ka-ta-wah). Anyhow, thanks for bringing the old Ron Rudat artwork to light. Really exciting to have seen all that stuff after all these years. I just wish Larry's handwriting was more legible |
