The original RAH Saw Viper I always assumed was based on the M-60 E3. Mostly because of the barrels and the handles. Attachment: M-60-E3.jpg The DTC version used the M249 version. I'd be surprised if the gun in the artwork is based on anything real. It just looks too far out there to be real. |

I don't believe the original gun is based on the M60E3, it looks too dissimilar. Off the top of my head, Dial Tone v4's =http://www.yojoe.com/access/94/12.jpg]gun is the closest Hasbro came from 1982-2000 to making an M60. The original's probably not modeled after any real gun and the concept art gun is definitely imaginative. A belt-fed machine gun using a backpack would be way too susceptible to jamming. |

The artist for the picture may have been inspired by the British SA-80 or Steyr AUG-1. They are bullpup (magazine in back) designs, and had options for a carry handle or optics. But he did forget to draw some sort of feed guide(chute whatever) for the ammo belt, to keep it straight and prevent jams. Plus the light support versions of the SA-80 & AUG-1 had longer barrels, not shorter. |
