I've yet to try it out. But I'll check it.

Thanks! I read somewhere about the knots in the string and I was wondering if that would affect anything. If it doesn't work, I won't mess with it and I'll leave the string wrapped around the backpack the same way it came packaged

I've got two and they both suck -- you can only "climb" about 5-6 inches. They don't even come up to the knots. There are two separate "ropes" connected to different-sized wheels inside. The trick is, you pull on the ropes, it slides upward -- but not very far.

I've gone ahead and cut the strings on mine and tied the hooks to usable ropes instead. The backpack itself without the ropes looks pretty good and works well for a mountaineering pack.

Yeah, I couldn't get much out of it. Luckily I hadn't planned on using it anyway.

Both of mine don't go up more than an inch or so. But I noticed that when held horizontally, Snake Eyes can slide back and forth on the rope.
