I just Netflixed Sigma 6 First Strike. Huh. After watching this and a couple episodes on YouTube all I can say is "Hasbro, WTF were you thinking?" So I was glad to see new G.I.*JOE stories that I hadn't seen before, using characters that I'm familiar with, but in some ways, I kinda wish I hadn't. The first major confusion point for me is the beginning of First Strike, Duke has just been recruited to a new SpecOps team while visiting Hawk in the hospital. I'm assuming Hawk was in the hospital recovering from the Venomization he suffered in VvV. Anyway, Hawk explains to Duke about Cobra, a terrorist organization. Their commander had been captured and is being held prisoner (following the end of VvV) and he is instructed to form a new team of specialists. Herein lies the confusion: Unless Duke and the rest of the team are made up of completely new members that all adopt the same call signs as their predessesors in those same billits, there's a major hiccup in the continuity. As Hawk is narrating to Duke, flashback scenes from VvV are being used to tell the story, including scenes of Duke and the others. As I understand it, the story is a continuation of the VvV story, but having just been recruited and having to be told who Cobra is would make it seem like it's an origin story. For all the love I've got for Tunnel Rat from the Movie, Resolute, VvV and the comics, this version of Tunnel Rat wants me to hate him with firey white hot passion of a million suns. Easily one of the most annoying characters I've ever come across. This Tunnel Rat must die. Why does every martial arts master in these Japanamation shows run with road-runner legs and their arms sticking back and out. I have never seen anyone run in this fashion. Granted growing up in Denver didn't expose me to too many ninjas, except that one time, but this looks stupid. Is it me or does it seem like all these Japanamation shows choose VO actors from the same stock? Like there's a handfull of ten actors and every Japanamation show uses them. No Cobra Troopers? Every troop is a BAT? So Cobra is made up of a small handfull of people, but a buttload of robots. Why is every Japanamated show about robots? The saving graces: It is cool to see the ROCC and RHINO in action, thought I'd hope to see more of the vehicles if I were to watch more episodes. I like that Scarlett has a slight southern accent. She is from Georgia and personally, I've yet to meet someone from Georgia who doesn't have some kind of accent. The First Strike story idea wasn't bad, nor were the two Sigma 6 episodes I watched on YouTube. I'd just rather see it done Resolute style, yes still Anime, but not the annoying Anime, or the Sunbow style. Crappy animation and bad characters can take alot away from the overall story. |

I believe that was an edit for the First Strike piece, and not at all present in the actual TV series. |

It added all the history of the GI Joe team whereas the original cut just had Duke recap the recent events in the lives of the Joes, which did follow the VvsV continuity. People wipe it with the Sigma 6 cartoon a lot, but by the second series the writing and characterization improved a great deal. Season 2's traitor megaplot was really fun to follow. |

Definitely try to track down the second season. It got MUCH better with Lt. Stone and his whole storyline. Its not Resolute by any means but it improved greatly on "Disco Duke in Las Vegas" and the like. |

Well, it's a combination of the fact that, in theory, it reduces drag and wind resistance (not unlike a paper airplane), it makes them look like they have great balance and it just looks mysterious and cool like a ninja should. But much like Sailor Moon posing or Dragonball charge-up screaming, people who do it in real life just end up looking silly. |

The other Anime thing that always drives me nuts, mainly coz they all do it, is when the hero is "suiting up," they always spin around in front of a multi-colourer flashing back ground and armour parts suddenly appear on their body or move into place on their own, and when they're done they strike a dramatic pose |

That glowy magical background allows them to just reuse the footage every time, saving money on animation. |

It worked for Wonder Woman and it works for me. |

No, I slide down a pole and when I hit the bottom, somehow my colthes have been changed from sleeping attire to daily wear. Still haven't figured out how it happens, it just does. |
