I've got a SAW Viper v3 that I had planned on customizing. I painted him solid green with the intent of painting camo on him and doing this, that, and the other thing to him.

What I was thinking is making him a bit of a community custom. I've painted him a base colour. I'll send him to another customizer to do something else to him and send him to someone else. That customizer will do something else and send him on to the next customizer and so on and so on.

Has this been done before?
Is it something you folks might be interested in doing?
What potential problems do you see with this?

I dont think its been done before. I think its a great idea. My recommendations with this would be:
1) keep it limited to "known" members. Dont want some one to sign up the same day just to get free stuff.
2) Keep the list limited to a small # of members. Some of things things explode to 80+ members and by the time it gets halfway done, interest is dead.
3) Have members agree to a timetable to turn it around to the next person. Again, in the past a single member can hold up a project for months
4) In the past, almost every time, the item will simply 'disappear' and never be seen or heard from again.

Lance Sputnik and I did something similar to this--we sent WIPs that each person painted and returned. He did a tremendous version of Shockwave for me!

I will second what ZG said--keep it manageable, and keep it to known members of the board and chances of success will be greater...

Good luck with this!

Yeah I would do it. I love to customize but due to the Cobra Bases I haven't really had a chance in a while. Well except for a few minor things here and there. This would give me a chance to do a little something without it becoming a massive project that I couldn't finish. I'll drop a sticker on the figure or add pouches or something.

That sound pretty fun, and a really cool way to see some of the board's great customizers' work first hand.

I suggested something like this for a Group Project.

Take a pic each step. That way we can see how it goes.

Cool. Glad you guys are diggin' this.
Mr. Zombie seems to have some good guide lines to follow.
Something else we'll need to establish is what kind of customizing can be done? I've already painted the figure, so I suppose the next person could paint the details, someone could add some Green Stuff molding, that sort of thing. I'm thinking maybe ten people could get in on this with a time limit of say, two weeks, then send it on.
Jeff has a good idea with taking a picture each step of the way too.
As far as whom to choose to be involved, I'd go with people who are regulars on the site. People who post almost every day, so we know where the figure is and how it's coming along and who'd butt to kick it they hold it up for too long.
We'll need to esablish what can and cannot be do the figure. Like would swapping body parts be OK? We'd need to keep the core figure in this so it's not a whole new figure by the time it's done.
