Never heard of it before and never saw them before. The line is called Redakai, and there's supposed to be a show premiering on CN on Saturday. Looks like the primary merchandise will be a card battling game, but Spinmaster is making a series of 1/18 action figures as well. Each figure comes with a powerup card for the card game, but I'm sure nobody here cares about that.
There's six figures in the line and some of them have LEDs in them like the Tron figures did. Only difference is that these figures' sculpts aren't hampered by the inclusion of the LEDs and the LEDs are also blindingly bright.
So, here's the guy I picked up.
Now, as you can see, he's
very stylized and is the least poseable figure in the line. From what I could tell, all of the other figures (at leas the ones I saw) had full articulation. And feet. Yes, he needs that odd little blue energy thing to stand up. Why there's only one in the package I don't know, but that's how it's supposed to be. He's got a nice, metallic silver paintjob (though the other figures' packages show him in chrome
) and has ball-hinge shoulders and ball in socket hips, so despite not having much articulation, what he has has a decent range of movement.
Here's a quick size comparison
All of the other figures in the line were monsters of various types. There's another mechanical looking one that's supposed to be the show's main character, there's a bird, a six armed spider monster, an armored alien, and a fully organic orange monster. It was actually a toss up between this guy and the orange one. The orange one was fully poseable with ball-hinge shoulders, elbows, I think his knees were ball-hinged as well, plus a ball in socket neck and hips.
The figures seem pretty light on accessories. They all come with the powerup card, like I said and from what I could tell, they all had some sort of clear special attack/weapon accessory. In the case of this guy, he's got a gun extension that goes into the hole in his chest and is able to light up thanks to the LED (it also helps diminish how blinding the damn thing is).
here you can see it. It isn't much, but its something
The bird guy had a clear green energy sword (no LED), I don't remember what the cyborg guy had, the orange monster had big clear orange claw attachments (no LED). Sadly, TRU did not have the other two figures, so I couldn't tell what they had.
Now, biggest downside to these is the price. They're pretty pricey at $9.99. Still, they do look neat.
