Never heard of it before and never saw them before. The line is called Redakai, and there's supposed to be a show premiering on CN on Saturday. Looks like the primary merchandise will be a card battling game, but Spinmaster is making a series of 1/18 action figures as well. Each figure comes with a powerup card for the card game, but I'm sure nobody here cares about that. There's six figures in the line and some of them have LEDs in them like the Tron figures did. Only difference is that these figures' sculpts aren't hampered by the inclusion of the LEDs and the LEDs are also blindingly bright. So, here's the guy I picked up. Now, as you can see, he's very stylized and is the least poseable figure in the line. From what I could tell, all of the other figures (at leas the ones I saw) had full articulation. And feet. Yes, he needs that odd little blue energy thing to stand up. Why there's only one in the package I don't know, but that's how it's supposed to be. He's got a nice, metallic silver paintjob (though the other figures' packages show him in chrome ) and has ball-hinge shoulders and ball in socket hips, so despite not having much articulation, what he has has a decent range of movement. Here's a quick size comparison All of the other figures in the line were monsters of various types. There's another mechanical looking one that's supposed to be the show's main character, there's a bird, a six armed spider monster, an armored alien, and a fully organic orange monster. It was actually a toss up between this guy and the orange one. The orange one was fully poseable with ball-hinge shoulders, elbows, I think his knees were ball-hinged as well, plus a ball in socket neck and hips. The figures seem pretty light on accessories. They all come with the powerup card, like I said and from what I could tell, they all had some sort of clear special attack/weapon accessory. In the case of this guy, he's got a gun extension that goes into the hole in his chest and is able to light up thanks to the LED (it also helps diminish how blinding the damn thing is). here you can see it. It isn't much, but its something The bird guy had a clear green energy sword (no LED), I don't remember what the cyborg guy had, the orange monster had big clear orange claw attachments (no LED). Sadly, TRU did not have the other two figures, so I couldn't tell what they had. Now, biggest downside to these is the price. They're pretty pricey at $9.99. Still, they do look neat. |

I've seen those too. Intriguing but I don't really have much need for monsters at the moment. |

Well, I have a need for monsters, but mythological monsters, not strange anime-esque creatures. |

Looks like something that could be compatible with the various "Ben 10" lines. |

What a novel idea! An anime show based on a card game of some sort where strange looking creatures fight one another based on a set of parameters dictated on the card! I'm sure these guys will have the monopoly on that idea. Interesting figure. He has kind of a 1950's stylized future look to him, the rest do sound like they could be Ben 10 characters. |

It's not even Anime, it's made by Marathon Media, a French studio famous for its anime-esque cartoons like Totally Spies, on behalf of Spin Master who're developping the card game and toyline. And yeah, the toyline's general design seems to be "Ben 10 Meets Yu-Gi-Oh". Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. |

I picked up the Metanoid robot, which is *way* cooler than the one Marasai got, imho. He's nearly Juggernaut-sized in overall volume. No wrist, ankle, or torso artic (due to the LED), but Hasbro-style balls at shoulders, elbows, knees, and pop'em ball/socket hips and neck. From the ribs on down he's baswically proportioned like a typical human, but his shoulders are twice as wide, easily; and his arms reach nearly to the floor. A real gorilla, this guy. He's got two big curvy spikes coming up off the shoulders, just below the ball where the hindarm starts; but they don't significantly affect the range of motion except when they hit the head just prior to the arms being straight out. The head design is mildly Ultron-ish, which is what made me choose him over the others at TRU. He comes with a big blue translucent eye artifact, mean to be the power to hypnotize his opponents. I'm thinking it'll make for a keen spell for Dr Strange. The only real drawback that isn't cool is that the LED assembly sticks out a proportionate 2 feet from his back. I've already torn it all out and thankfully there's a cap piece that fits nicely into the resulting hole so he looks fine with the plug sticking back about a proportionate 8 inches or so. He's decently cool right out of the package, and makes for a great project fig. Gonna have to give him some sort of ribcage ball joint, and will probably bash some RevolTech joints into the wrists and ankles. I hope these show up at Target and WM where they'll likely be cheaper than $10, but I can easily see me getting some more to monkey with. Thanks for the heads-up, Marasai! |
