Four points of articulation. Molded on everything. The end.

Maybe they're just lowering our expectations... then BAM! GI Joe's 50th Anniversary, filled with all the badassery we've been missing.

I would LOVE if that were true, but I doubt Hasbro will have much of anything planned beyond a couple of press releases, certainly nothing to the level of the 30th or 40th anniversaries.

Don't know why they wouldn't, that's half a century buddy. That means a lot. Maybe someone should start a petition...

It could be that the 12" figures weren't selling good enough to continue.......

Probably this. There is no non high end collector market anymore. PTE 1/6 isn't wide enough distribution to be widely "collected" by kids, and you aren't going to have enough of a store presence if you only exist in Big Lots two months out of the year.

So Hasbro is stuck between a rock and a hard place: They can't make anything to the level that will please the adult collectors that are more familiar with the 1/6 scale because no one that buys Hasbro is going to pay Hot Toys prices, and kids just aren't into 1/6. So either they make something that is "cost effective" and will be available at the price Hasbro 1/6 buyers are used to at retail, and don't sell to adults because the detail and quality is horrible, or make a quality 1/6 figure at, or slightly below, the level of quality of 1/6 currently being put out and never sell them because you won't pay $100 for a Hasbro figure.

At least with the first option they may possibly sell some to kids.

Yeah I just do not see kids now wanting the twelve inch "dolls" at all. Its unfortunate but true. I just hope Hasbro sees it and focuses on the 3.75 scale for the anniversary. A guy can hope.

over the years we've seen the toy companies try weird ideas in an attempt to see if something sticks. I assume this is one of them. All the main lines have them and none of them are selling well. They will eventually be red tagged and probably a thing of the past. I can't see where there will be anymore made. Who's ever idea it was, they have seen what experiment they wanted to see by now.

They've been doing 12" figures in that same style for Iron Man 3 and Star Wars, too.

Maybe they're aiming for collectors who just want a nice-looking figure in package? A display/conversation piece?

Believe it or not, people who aren't loose toy collectors don't care as much about articulation... it's how McFarlane Toys stayed around so long. ;)

It was said back when these were first shown at Toy Fair that it was an attempt to get the younger kids interested by having large figures for less. I think it was one of the fan sites said it. For the most part, they were 5.99 until stores decided to try and get a little more.

Huh. Wonder if that's the same story for the 16-inch non-transforming Optimus Prime and Bumblebee figures.
