This a review of sorts for the Animal Planet Tree House Playset.

I had kind of looked at this set before, but never went for it. Partly because I wasn't sure where I would display it, but mostly because the $40 price tag was more than I really wanted to pay for it.
Recently I finally got a couple Kwinn figures, and planned to copy drbindy's villain using the Kwinn figure with a Mindbender head. I didn't have a hat/helmet for him, and I found out from drbindy that the one he used was from a Chap Mei figure. So I started looking at Chap Mei stuff. Just so happened that this set comes with a figure wearing a nice pith helmet, and just so happens that the price on the set dropped to $30. This was enough to get me to finally pick it up. I was so pleased with it, that I grabbed a second one.

I love how it's modular, so you can build it in numerous configurations. The instruction sheets show 3 ways, but there are many, many, more.

I'll quit talking now and get to the pictures. My boys and I set it up in front of our fireplace, and messed with it, until we liked the layout.

This looks really cool! I would love to see a beeakdown of the modular pieces or a pic of the instructions to show the configurations with just 1 treehouse.

That is cool. I've never seen in in the local TRU. Wonder if this is another one of those infamous international market only Chap Mei items.

wow. I had no idea there was that much to it. Just to be clear though - is it just one set that's photographed, or is that a combination with the 2nd one you said you bought?

This is two sets together. Basically set up one set in the back, one in the front, and connected them.
I also added the map table and communications computers, from a Chap Mei C-130, in the front hut. I am thinking about getting a PTE bunk set for the rear hut.

The TRU page shows a couple of the configurations. It pictures one, and there is another pictured on the front of the box. The rear section of my set up, is basically the configuration pictured on the front of the box, and then I 'free-handed' the front section to fit with it the way I wanted.

I'll see about getting some pictures of the instruction sheets, if I haven't thrown them out.

pluv, the link in his post goes to the item on TRU's website where it's available now for the price of $29,99.

Honestly I'm really tempted by this. I know I'm trying to cut back on this kind of stuff but I can totally see this as an Adventure Team base of operations. And the elephant?! AWESOME!

The set comes with a movie camera and a handheld camera that both fit on the tripod. The tripod that comes with the set is orange. The black one is from a small set that came with an ATV, a rhino, and the fat dude in cargo shorts.

Here you go.

As you can see the trees are made up of different pieces, so they can be made in tons of different sizes and configurations. The main hut and the little guard house can go up in the trees, on the ground, on the rock base, on top of each other, etc.
The little platforms also mount in multiple ways. It's a lot of fun fiddling around with them to see what different set-ups you can make.

Compared to the cost of recent playsets, I still thought that $60 for two of the sets, made for a playset WAY better than other offerings, like the PIT, Narnia Castle, Schleich Castle facades, etc. And still cheaper than many of them.

"LASER BLAST". Now I need a new Kwinn, just so I can make that guy with the Mindbender head. Or at least keep one of those heads and a pith helmet in Kwinn's baggie. Outstanding.

Yeah I had no intention of getting any Kwinn figures, until I saw drbindy's use of the figure. Then I HAD to have some.
I love the Mindbender headed guy, thanks again for comming up with that one Dennis! :-)

I caved and grabbed one of these over the weekend. There were a couple pieces I really wanted for me, and I let my son play with the set itself. He's turned the basement couch into an Imperial base, so I gave him this set, and told him to pretend the base was on Endor ;). He hasn't stopped playing since.

I think to make it a proper AT field base though, you've gotta have two of them like you do here. Worth the $60 if built the way you have it.

I got one set myself. Where I got it from it's named Animal Rescue but its the exact same set. As you said you can make several configurations I made a custom one myself also. I like how yours look. From where did you get that command center console and table?

I also made a small change to mine. Where I wanted to place it there was not enough room but I wanted to use mostly the tree house and the bridge. The rock part was not of so much interest to me plus I wanted to put some vehicles under the house. so I had to add a small plastic ring to the hole on one of the sides of the bridge this way if fits tight in one of the trees so the bridge is hanging between a tree and the house. I added some foot pegs on the bridge to place 3 Joes on it.

It's a nice set I recommend it. It really gave a jungle look to one of my display shelves.
