I'm looking for a good guide to 12 inch Joes from the 1960s and 1970s. There are a few out there, the Complete GI Joe Encyclopedia by Vincent Santelmo, The GI Joe Official Identification and Price Guide by the same author, Collectible GI Joe: An Official Guide to His Action-Packed World by Derryl Depriest and a few others.

Does anyone here have these books? Are they any good? Which one would you recommend? Are there others that I should be looking at?

Derryl Depriest's book is the best for info. The Vincent Santelmo book is ok, but do not read too much of it. Alot of stuff was made up and plagerized from other authors. It's only redeeming value is the book has alot of the old catalog pictures and breakdowns. The DeSimone books are ok, but again alot of mis-information and lots of mis-placed equipment or use of knock off gear.

I have the Collectible GI Joe: An Official Guide to His Action-Packed World by Derryl Depriest and love that book. I have not looked at the others but I don't see much that I feel could have been a lot better. A plus to me is most pictures are in a diorama set up with some comparison photos in the back.

I have to agree, the DePreist book is the way to go.

Thanks guys. I'll shop around to find one that isn't too expensive.

James Desimone's identification guide is pretty neat.

The three Action Man books by Alan Hall are awesome, but they show sets that weren't available in America.
